About Us –  In 1975,”City Slickers”,born and raised in Hawaii, came to Utah to get our Masters Degrees from Brigham Young University-Provo.  After graduating, my wife worked as a regular ed. teacher, grades 2-6th, and also as a Special Education Teacher.  I worked as a Speech Language Pathologist.  After a couple homes, we bought and built our 3rd home on a 5 acre parcel in Salem, Utah, where we bought, Pebbles, our first Lab, a large, beautiful female with a glossy black coat.  Two of her grandparents were show champions, another grand parent had sired 22 litters for the Blind, and the last was a Field Champion. We loved Pebbles who grew up to be such a wonderful companion, a titled upland game and waterfowl hunter, nicknamed by the AKC Hunt Test judges “Moose” because of her size. Pebbles was my wife’s favorite walking companion who protected her from strangers and other dogs that came too close.  My children often took Pebbles on walks in the fields.  They said that Pebbles listened and consoled them when faced with the problems of growing up. Pebbles had all of these wonderful traits that Labs are prized for, “Quality Begets Qualtiy”.

First 10 years:  Because we hunted in the fields surrounding us, we got into the American Field Labs and became heavily involved in earning AKC Hunt Tests titles. I’ll never forget the butterflies in my stomach awaiting my turn to go run my dogs.  How excited and proud we and our dogs were as they returned from a land or water retrieve, delivering their duck to my hand. Our dogs then, were offsprings of the best National and Field champions in the country. Like their parents, they too were lean muscled, and stylish.  They shot off the line like a bullet out of a pistol, could turn on a dime, with explosive water entries,, and swam as fast as an alligator.  Born to compete, they were so amazing to watch and run.  

Second 10 years, due to some major health challenges, we no longer could participate in the Hunt Tests.  We changed to “Dual Purpose” English Labs that have the “Classic English” build; blocky, robust, big bones, wide heads, and thick otter tails. Our Labs now came from the some of best Show Champion in the country, and if possible, Show Champions that also earned to coveted Master Hunter Title.  We also competed in Conformation Shows.  Why? Two reasons, first, we loved the looks of the Show Labs.  Second, we felt that the English Labs are genrally more calm than the American Field Lab.  

Goals For Our Labrador Retrievers:

Goal 1 – “Have a Genetic Advantage”.  With constant research, selective breeding, and costly changes, “ALL of our Woodland Hills Retrievers Puppies come with a written health guarantee against dysplasia in the Hips and Elbows and Eyes.  They are “Clear Through Parentage” of the PRA, EIC, CNM, HPNK, and our Chocolates are free from the Color Dilute Gene.

Goal 2- “Have a Great Looks Advantage”. All of our Labs are “English in Build”  They have the “Classic” Labrador look; broad foreheads, strong and robust bodies, and thick otter’s tail.  They are all from Show Champion parents who have been judged to have the “Best of the Best” looks. “Even if you’re not info shows, wouldn’t it be neat to have the best looking Lab on the block?”

Goal 3 – “Have a Big Desire to Retrieve Advantage”.  All of our Labs love to retrieve.  Many of our dogs come from parents who are Show Champions with Hunt Test Titles (Master Hunters, Senior Hunters, and Junior Hunters).  We believe that Labs who “love” to retrieve make more fun and interesting companions.  Your kids will want spend the most time with in the backyard, or at the parks catching and retrieving balls, frisbees, and sticks.  Some of our Lab puppies have become skilled, titled hunting companions.

 Goal 4 – “Have a Quality Advantage” We believe that “Quality Begets Quality”.  All of our Labs have some from Champions, Field first, then Show.  They come with the amazing genes of their parents and grandparents,  to excel in so many different venues including, companion, service, health, rescue, and agility.
