Questions Frequently Asked

Puppy Feeding:  We are currently feeding our puppies Diamond Naturals – Lamb, Brown Rice, and Vegetables For Large Breed Puppies.  By the time the pups leave us, they are usually eating about 3/4 – 1 cup of puppy food twice a day.  Food for a couple of feedings will be provided with your pup’s departure.  Feeding Transition to Food of Your Choice: Mix half a serving of Diamond with half a serving of the food of your choice until the Diamond is gone and then feed your food totally.

Health Information:  A Health Record containing the dates of it’s vaccinations and worming as well as their suggested future vaccination and worming schedule will accompany each pup to their new homes.  The puppies are wormed every 2 weeks.  At 6 weeks, they receive their 1st Puppy Vaccination and Worming.  If they stay with us longer, they will be current with their Puppy Vaccinations and Worming until they leave for their new homes.  All of our puppies have their dew claws removed during the first week after birth. They will also be socialized by our grand kids and at scheduled puppy visits by our friends and their children. Each pup leaves with a Puppy Packet containing an AKC Registration Application, AKC Puppy Pedigree, Health Record, and Receipt of Purchase, and NuVet brochures.  (Copy of our Puppy Guarantee included below!)

Purchasing a Puppy from Woodland Hills Retrievers: You can reserve a puppy with a deposit of $300 using Pay Pal, Venmo, or a Personal Check sent through the Postal System.  The deposit amount will be deducted from the total cost of the puppy.  The balance of the puppy is due when the puppy turns 6 weeks of age.  If you are coming in person to pick your puppy up, a Cash Payment of the balance will be due then.  The selection of pups will be made in the order that the deposits were received, however, Woodland Hills Retrievers reserve the right to selection any of the pups from any our litters before our customers can make their selection. Deposits will be promptly refunded only if the puppy of your preference, color and gender, cannot be provided.

AKC Limited vs. Full Registration:  To promote responsible ownership, all of our pups come with a “Limited AKC Registration” meaning that these pups do not come with breeding rights, and cannot be shown in AKC Conformation Shows.  However, we do offer a “Full AKC Registration” to established kennels, and to those who often show in AKC Conformation competition. If breeding or participating in AKC Conformation is important to you, then special arrangements can be made.

Flight Costs:  While we always encourage our customers to pick their puppies up, some need to be flown to their new homes.  We’ve always had great results with  Delta Air, Sky West, Alaska Air, American Air, and United Air.  Cost for flying an 8 week old Lab puppy is approximately $380 which covers the air fare, a crate to ship the puppy in, and the vet’s fees for completing a Health Certificate that is required by most of the airlines.  I do not charge for my travels to and from the airport.  Hopefully this will help to keep your cost down.

In Conclusion:  Thanks for visiting with us.  We are extremely proud of our dogs and puppies.  Please contact us if you would like to own a Woodland Hill Retriever puppy.

WOODLAND HILLS RETRIEVERS guarantees this dog to be free of hereditary dysplasia in the hips, elbows, and eyes for 30 months. Certification can only be done through OFA (Hips and Elbows) and AVCO CERFS (eyes) evaluation.  Should the dog be diagnosed as having dysplasia in the hips, elbows, or eyes by OFA or CERF, Woodland Hills Retrievers will replace this puppy with a puppy of similar breeding and price, or the owner may choose to apply the purchase price for another puppy of a higher price.  The affected dog must be spayed/neutered, or euthanized, and must not have been bred for this guarantee to remain valid.  The buyer may keep the original dog, or place it in a pet home, after being spayed/neutered.  A copy of the OFA or CERF evaluation, and the vet’s report of spaying/neutering must be received by Woodland Hills Retrievers.  Theses results will be verified by a vet of our choice before the replacement will be authorized.  Woodland Hills Retrievers reserve the right to be a second opinion before such action takes place. This guarantee is effective until the puppy turns 30 months of age.

Any shipping or medical expenses will be the responsibility of the purchaser.  Accidents and/or illnesses are not covered in this health guarantee.  The buyer agrees to have this dog/puppy seen by a veterinarian  within a week of its reception for a general health check and have a complete inoculation schedule set up.  The buyer agrees to keep all veterinarian records.

THIS GUARANTEE IS VOID WHEN:

1) The puppy is sold or given to another.

2) The puppy is bred before 24 months of age without obtaining OFA and CERF certifications.
